Daily CSU COVID-19 Updates

 Past 24 Hours

  • To ensure all students are able to transition to remote learning on Monday, March 23, laptops and hotspots are being made available to those individuals who indicated they have a need for this equipment. Those students can learn more about laptop pick up here and hotspot pick up here. We also encourage all students to check their CSU email regularly for the latest information on remote learning. If you don’t have a laptop or cannot get internet access, call Campus411.
  • The CSU Counseling Center is open online and by phone, providing free mental health services to students. Crisis call-in is available Monday - Friday from 1:00 - 3:00 at 216-687-2277. A new virtual drop-in group starts next week: Mindful Coping - Supporting each other during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Email Dr. Brittany Sommers to get the link: b.sommers52@csuohio.edu. The CSUCARE Team is also working remotely. Please report any critical needs or concerns for student well-being by emailing magnusacts@csuohio.edu.
  • CSU President Harlan Sands held a virtual Town Hall on Friday, March 20. He discussed issues impacting students, faculty and staff including the transition to remote learning, and the University’s response to COVID-19 to ensure the health and safety of our community. You can view the Town Hall replay here. We will post answers to the most frequently asked questions during the Town Hall on the CSU Coronavirus web page.
  • In an effort to further reduce the number of people on campus and reduce the risk of person-to-person spread of COVID-19, all research labs on campus have been closed. Individuals have been identified to manage animal colonies and critical functions needed in the labs. In an effort to limit personnel on campus, only these individuals will be permitted access to the labs and only during specific times. Please contact your dean or department head if you have specific questions regarding this policy.

 New FAQs

Questions we’re receiving from the CSU community:

  • What is social distancing and why is it important?
Social distancing is the practice of maintaining a greater than usual physical distance, the recommendation is at least six feet, from other people during the outbreak of a contagious disease in order to minimize exposure and reduce the transmission of infection. The CDC is urging all citizens to practice social distancing to assist in reducing the spread of COVID-19. You can learn more here.
  • Can students, faculty and staff come to campus?
No. Only essential employees are allowed on campus. All other students, faculty and staff must work remotely and not come to campus. This is extremely important to help minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and transmission.
  • Will CSU be providing refunds to students for housing, meals, parking and other fee services that are now not available?
As President Sands said during today’s Town Hall, Cleveland State is committed to doing right by students in these challenging times. We are working out specific plans to address refunds and will be providing more information shortly on next steps.
  • Should students sign up for summer and fall classes?
Yes. CSU is committed to continuing to provide access to education, whether virtual or face to face. We encourage students to sign up for classes for summer and fall. We are working on plans for summer term and will keep you updated on how we expect to deliver coursework, as we continue to follow CDC guidance and advice of local, regional, state and federal health officials.
  • What should I do if I have books from the library or rental textbooks from the bookstore that I need to return?
Hang onto them. As President Sands noted in today’s Town Hall, no late fees will be assessed for library books or rental textbook as a result of the campus shutdown and transition to remote learning.
