Daily CSU COVID-19 Updates

Remote Learning Begins tomorrow, Monday, March 23, and will run through at least May 8. Below is a list of resources and FAQs to assist students as this process begins.

  • CSU will fully comply with Governor DeWine’s stay-at-home order announced today.  Details of the governor’s order can be found here.  A complete listing of all CSU campus services under the order, their status, and hours of remote operations can be found here.
  • Remote learning will begin as scheduled tomorrow, Monday, March 23. We urge all students to review the new course materials created for the transition and then email their professors to discuss specific questions. If you are not able to connect with your professor, please click here for a list of contacts for each college who can also provide academic support.
  • Students should make sure they are regularly checking their CSU email for the latest updates. We also encourage students to go to CampusNet to ensure all of their contact information is up to date.
  • CSU has created a comprehensive website to provide a full listing of the resources and support services that are available to assist students with the transition to remote learning. Visit the Keep Learning site to learn more.
  • Cleveland State is committed to providing students with the resources needed to fully access remote learning. Three tools that will be widely used are Blackboard, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and more resources are available at the Keep Learning page on the CSU website. If you have additional technology needs please contact Campus 411 at 216-687-5411 so that we can connect you with the appropriate services.
  • We recognize that a number of students are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic. CSU is working to put in place a portfolio of resources to assist individuals during this difficult time. One existing vehicle is the Fowler Emergency Fund. Please click here to learn more about the Fund, eligibility and how to apply.
  • To ensure all of our students have access to the emotional support they may need through this challenging time, The CSU Counseling Center is open online and by phone, providing free mental health services to students. Crisis call-in is available Monday - Friday from 1:00 - 3:00 at 216-687-2277. The CSUCARE Team is also working remotely. Please report any critical needs or concerns for student well-being by emailing magnusacts@csuohio.edu. A wide variety of fitness and wellness classes will also be provided remotely by the CSU Recreation Center in the near future. Visit their website to learn more.

 New FAQs

Questions we’re receiving from the CSU community:

  • Will the governor’s stay-at-home order impact remote learning plans?
No. Because we have progressively been reducing on-campus functions and employees to only those most critical to ensure security of the campus, launch remote learning, and support the few remaining students unable to relocate, the university is poised to be fully compliant with the Governor’s order. Remote learning begins as scheduled tomorrow, Monday, March 23.
  • Can students come to campus?
No. Only essential employees are allowed on campus.  All other students, faculty and staff must stay off campus and work remotely to help minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
  • What is the process for moving out of the residence halls?
Cleveland State is requiring students in the residence halls to move out by today, Sunday, March 22. If you were not able to meet this deadline, please contact Residence Life immediately.
  • What is happening with Commencement?
CSU will postpone Spring Commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 9 and the School of Law Commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 16 to comply with CDC guidelines on mass gatherings. Alternate dates have not yet been set. More details will be shared with the CSU community as they are decided. Graduates will still have their degrees conferred on May 9 and May 16. Paper diplomas will be mailed to graduates shortly thereafter.
  • What is social distancing and why is it important?
Social distancing is the practice of maintaining a greater than usual physical distance, the recommendation is at least six feet, from other people during the outbreak of a contagious disease in order to minimize exposure and reduce the transmission of infection. The CDC is urging all citizens to practice social distancing to assist in reducing the spread of COVID-19. You can learn more here.
