Daily CSU COVID-19 Updates

The Lead

  • If you missed CSU President Harlan Sands virtual Town Hall yesterday, be sure to watch the archived replay on the CSU Facebook page. Thank you to students, faculty and staff who took part in the live event. Your questions and feedback will help guide future communication as we continue to respond to COVID-19 and adapt to remote learning.

Student Engagement and Support

  • Check out the Keep Learning website for resources and support services available to assist students with the transition to remote learning. In addition, a complete listing of all CSU campus services and hours of remote operations can be found here.
  • The CSU Bookstore has created a new FAQs page to assist students in navigating textbook rentals, purchases and buybacks. For student convenience, the textbook rental period has been extended 15 days. You can also learn more about free digital ebook options for this semester on the store’s website.


  • New today: CSU will suspend its Academic Standing Policy for the Spring 2020 term, except in instances where licensure and regulatory considerations come in to play. This means that students whose academic performance would normally put them on academic warning, probation, or dismissal (graduate level) will not have that occur this semester, and students whose academic performance would normally progress to probation or suspension under the policy, will be given an additional semester without penalty.
  • As President Sands shared in yesterday’s virtual Town Hall, CSU will institute a Pass/Fail grading option to give students more flexibility in juggling academic and personal demands in the current situation. The option is available for all undergraduate and graduate classes, except those that require a letter grade for licensure or regulatory reasons. Students can choose Pass/Fail or a traditional letter grade. Details on how this may affect student GPAs, financial aid, and other factors, as well as the deadline for choosing Pass/Fail will be communicated next week.


  • We are urging faculty and staff to move important computer files to the cloud for remote work. In particular, faculty and staff should not rely on working via remote desktop from individual on-campus PCs. Those systems will be subject to failure (shutting down, needing to be rebooted, etc.), and IS&T is currently not able to resolve issues with those physical systems, due to remote work and the campus closure. Information on how to migrate your data to the cloud, as well as other tech tips, such as using smart phones to scan documents, can be found here.

On Campus

  • In keeping with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s “Stay at Home” order, CSU campus buildings have been locked and swipe card access disabled until further notice. Only officially designated essential employees necessary for university continuity of operations will be allowed on campus. See the full announcement here.

  • Will there be any interruptions in financial aid due to the campus shut down and the transition to remote operations for campus services?
    No. We don’t anticipate any interruption in federal, state or institutional financial aid as a result of COVID-19 and the transition to remote work for university staff. Students with questions about financial aid can contact Allin1 Enrollment Services at 216.687.5411 or allin1@csuohio.edu or review our financial aid FAQ here. Students receiving financial can also review this timeline to stay on top of important dates and deadlines related to financial aid.
  • What free textbook options are available?
    The CSU bookstore can provide free ebook options on a wide variety of subjects to assist students in reducing textbook costs. Please click here to learn more.
  • When should students expect to hear about refunds of housing, meals and parking fees?
    As President Sands noted in his virtual Town Hall, CSU is working diligently on a process to issue pro-rated refunds and/or credits for housing, meals and parking. Complete information will be available in the coming days.
