Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Because of the great work we have done on campus keeping ourselves safe since the onset of the pandemic, and because of the progress we are making on a daily basis to vaccinate our faculty, staff and students, I am extremely excited to announce that we now plan to welcome all faculty, staff and students back to campus on August 21st as we return to “near normal” operations this fall.

What does this mean for our campus community? For students and faculty, it means most classes and labs will be in-person and on-campus in fall 2021. It means we will fully open up our residence halls, have a near-full slate of residence life events, campus dining and student activities — with proper safety protocols of course — and a wealth of on-campus student support services available. For staff, it means that we will do everything in our power to ensure we can safely open up on-campus offices.

To make this happen and ensure we can stay on campus together, we will need to take the following steps between now and August:

  1. Do our best to ensure all faculty, staff and students are vaccinated. We urge all of you to take advantage of our fantastic mass vaccination center at the Wolstein Center, which has already vaccinated tens of thousands of Clevelanders and CSU faculty and staff. Visit or call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH to make an appointment at Wolstein or another location near you. Given the increasing availability of vaccines, we expect that by late August, all faculty, staff and students will be vaccinated and ready to come to campus.
  2. Communicate to students who seek to live on-campus that we will require vaccinations before August move-in.
  3. Continue to adjust plans based upon what transpires with COVID-19 spread in the coming months.

For the fall semester, we will continue to require masking, physical distancing and our other layers of protection to ensure we stay safe.

I look forward to the opportunity to see you on campus and experience our vibrant campus community with you, and we will work diligently between now and fall to make this happen.

In the meantime, continue to be safe and get vaccinated now!
