The Lead

  • Cleveland State today completed a donation of much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) to local hospitals as they prepare for the care and treatment of a growing number of COVID-19 patients in Cuyahoga County and surrounding areas. In total, 750 masks, 115 disposable gowns and more than 3500 boxes of disposable gloves were donated. See more on CSU’s Twitter feed here. Thanks to everyone who worked to make this donation happen for showing your true Viking colors!
  • The provost’s office today announced additional details about the Pass/Fail grading option available for spring term for all undergraduate and graduate courses, except those requiring a letter grade for licensure or regulatory reasons. The message includes links to extensive FAQs for both undergraduate and graduate students to help students make an informed decision, as well as a list of exempt courses and resources at each school or college for additional help. The message was sent via email to all students, and can also be read here. Students are strongly encouraged to speak to their academic advisors or college advising office before electing Pass/Fail for any course.
  • CSU President Harlan Sands will hold his weekly virtual Town Hall this Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET, on the university’s Facebook page. If you miss the live event, an archived replay will be available on the page. Archived replays of the president’s Town Halls from each of the past three weeks are also available.

Student Engagement and Support

  • Pro-rated refunds for students’ housing, meal plans and parking fees for Spring Semester are being processed. Students should receive refunds into their CSU student accounts not later than April 21.
  • The CSU Counseling Center is here to help and is open online and by phone, providing free mental health services to students. To access services, call the Counselling Center at 216-687-2277. The CSUCARE Team is also working remotely and can be reached at 216-687-2048 or by email at magnusacts@csuohio.edu.
  • The Tutoring & Academic Success Center is a great resource for tutoring, coaching, supplemental instruction and other services designed to help students succeed and stay engaged with their coursework in the remote environment. To access help, email tutoring@csuohio.edu or call 216-687-2012. Also check out the Keep Learning website for resources and support services available to assist students with the transition to remote learning.

  • CSU will extend remote learning and teaching for the first 2020 Summer term beginning May 16. A decision on the learning and teaching mode for the second Summer session beginning June 27 will be made at a later date.

  • All students, faculty and staff should be aware of an increase in email phishing attacks and scams related to COVID-19. Be sure to verify the address of any sender and exercise caution in clicking links or opening attachments. To help flag external emails for closer scrutiny, IS&T has added a banner warning to any messages coming from outside of the CSU system.

For Faculty and Staff

  • In compliance with Governor DeWine’s stay at home order, remote work for all faculty and staff will continue until at least May 1. This supersedes the original guidance that staff would return to campus April 13. Further extensions beyond May 1, if needed, will be based on the guidance of public health officials, the state and federal government and the CDC. We will keep our community apprised of when we will return to campus.
  • As the Greater Cleveland community responds to COVID-19, requests for services, supplies or other resources are being directed to various contact points within CSU. In order to track such requests and respond in a coordinated way, we are asking faculty and staff who receive such requests to direct them to Heather Link in the Office of the President, at 216-523-7359 or heather.link@csuohio.edu.

On Campus

  • In keeping with Governor DeWine’s stay at home order, CSU campus buildings are locked and swipe card access disabled until further notice. Only officially designated essential employees are permitted on campus. Thank you to everyone for supporting Governor DeWine’s policy and working remotely.
