Classes: Remote Learning Underway

The Lead

  • CSU President Harlan Sands held his weekly virtual Town Hall today at 1 p.m. ET, on the university’s Facebook page. If you missed the live event, an archived replay is available on the page. Archived replays of the president’s Town Halls from each of the past three weeks are also available.

Student Engagement and Support

  • Pro-rated refunds for students’ housing, meal plans and parking fees for Spring Semester are being processed. Students who signed up for direct deposit could start seeing refunds in their accounts as soon as Monday of next week, and paper checks will begin mailing tomorrow. The volume of refunds to be issued is considerable and they will go out over the course of several days, so we appreciate students’ patience.

  • On Monday, the provost’s office announced details on the Pass/Fail grading option available for spring term, including links to FAQs for both undergraduate and graduate students, a list of exempt courses and resources at each school or college for additional help. You can read the message here. Students are strongly encouraged to speak to their academic advisors or college advising office before electing Pass/Fail for any course.

Questions we’re receiving:

  • What is the status of classes for summer?
As previously announced, remote learning has been extended to include summer courses beginning May 16. As noted by President Sands in today’s Town Hall, a decision on the status of courses beginning June 27 will be forthcoming.
  • Will there be a spring graduation?
While a traditional commencement ceremony has been postponed due to COVID-19, graduates will have their degrees conferred on May 9. Plans are also being developed to celebrate the achievement of our graduating students on May 9 and details will be forthcoming. We also want to hold a formal commencement for graduates at a later date when conditions allow.
