Remote Learning Update

NOTE: Future updates will be sent as needed to share new information with the campus community.

Operating Status
Campus: Remote work will continue for all staff and faculty until further notice; only designated essential employees permitted on Campus
Classes: Remote Learning Underway

The Lead

  • CSU President Harlan Sands will hold a virtual Town Hall for the campus community tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6, at 1:00 p.m. ET on the university’s Facebook page. If you miss the live event, an archived replay will be available on the site.  Replays of the president’s prior town halls are also available on the site.
  • CSU will hold its first-ever virtual commencement on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. ET. The event will honor each graduate, celebrate their years at CSU and provide a memorable, uplifting and fun event for family and friends. Graduating students should continue to monitor their CSU email accounts throughout May for information and updates.
  • Task forces composed of faculty and staff, with input from student leaders, are intensely planning when, and under what conditions, CSU will re-start on-campus operations.  CSU is also leading an effort among all Ohio public colleges and universities to develop common protocols and best practices for returning to campus. As a reminder, all CSU summer sessions remain in remote teaching and learning mode and a decision about fall semester will be made as soon as possible.
  • Cleveland State officials assisted the City of Cleveland in developing its ReStart Cleveland initiative, the city’s reopening plan, which is designed to restart the local economy while continuing to protect the health and safety of all Clevelanders. You can learn more about the ReStart Cleveland initiative here

Academics

  • As announced last Friday, students will now have an additional opportunity, from May 18 - May 22 (11:59pm), to choose the pass/fail option for Spring 2020 courses. Students who chose pass/fail for courses and now want to change back to a letter grade, can also do so during this time. Click here to read the full message, which includes important information on how students can change their pass/fail or letter grade selections.

For Faculty and Staff

  • The Office of Student Learning Assessment is asking interested CSU faculty and staff to consider serving as 2020 assessment reviewers for this summer and fall.  These peer review sessions represent a valuable opportunity to support student-centered learning particularly during our current remote learning environment. Please contact Dr. Graham Stead g.b.stead@csuohio.edu for more information.

Questions we’re receiving:

  • How can I apply for a Lift Up Vikes! emergency aid grant?
Students can access the application in CampusNet through a link at the top of the landing page when they log in. Eligibility for an emergency grant is dependent on each student’s individual circumstances.  Grants of up to $2,500 can be used for food, housing, course materials, technology or childcare expenses.
  • With no in-person commencement, how will graduates receive their diplomas, or, for honors graduates, their honors medallions?
All graduates will receive a “grad box” that will include their diploma, diploma cover, commencement program booklet, and, if applicable, their honors medallion. The boxes are expected to begin mailing to students in early June.
