Fall Semester Update

NOTE: We are transitioning the prior Remote Learning Update to focus on sharing information with the campus community on plans for Fall Semester.

Operating Status
Campus: Only designated essential employees and others with prior approval of the Provost’s office or Human Resources are permitted on Campus
Classes: Summer Sessions underway

The Lead

  • CSU President Harlan Sands held a live virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, June 24, at 1:00 p.m. on the university’s Facebook page, during which he discussed plans for Fall Semester and the phased repopulation of campus, and answered questions from current and incoming students. If you missed the live event, an archived replay is available on the page, along with replays of prior Town Halls.
  • A resource page with information for Fall Semester has been created here on the university website. It includes President Sands’ message to campus sent Tuesday, June 23, as well as additional information and resources, and an initial list of frequently asked questions. This page will be updated on a regular basis and students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check the page regularly for news and updates about Fall Semester.

For Students

  • The last day to apply for Lift Up Vikes! emergency grants for Summer Semester will be Tuesday, June 30. The application will close at noon that day, and will reopen for Fall Semester on September 5, after the end of the drop/add period.

Questions we are receiving

  • What alternatives to on-campus classes will there be for students who are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19?
A remote teaching and learning option will be made available for all on-campus courses to accommodate students who are at high risk. Students who are immunocompromised or have other conditions that put them at high risk should register with the Office of Disability Services in order to receive an academic accommodation for a course on campus.
  • Will classrooms be cleaned regularly?
Yes. Enhanced, frequent cleaning and sanitizing protocols are being put in place for classrooms, common areas and high-touch surfaces.
  • Will there be a pass/fail grading options for Fall Semester similar to what was offered for Spring and Summer Semesters?
There are no plans to offer the pass/fail grading option for Fall Semester at this time.
  • When will students know which classes will be online and which will be in person?
As indicated by President Sands in his recent message to campus, priorities for on-campus classes are those where in-person instruction is required for graduation or licensure, first-year/freshman courses, and those courses the faculty feel need to be taught face-to-face for best learning outcomes. The work of selecting, scheduling, identifying classrooms or other spaces to accommodate social distancing, and assigning faculty for courses that will be taught on campus is complex and ongoing. We expect to communicate results in the coming weeks and we ask for students’ patience in the meantime.
